Am I Owed Money From The Inland Revenue?

5 years ago I went to the Inland Revenue about national insurance and they did some checks and came back and told me that I had been overpaying my national insurance and that in broken-down to claim it back I needed to provide them with starting and finishing dates for all my jobs. I have had from head to toe a few jobs and never got round to doing this. Would this still be the case that I am owed money and how do I find out?

Answer: Particular office won't know anything about this. But staff could give you information about the employment details they hold for you, back to 05/04/2003. It is tenable that won't be complete if employers haven't provided information.
You could then take it from there. I guess it is the National Insurance Office that is asking about your National Insurance, and although now organised now by HMRC, there isn't much agent with local offices.

had a few jobs over the last 20 years and its principally times and dates im stuck on. wondered if its possible to track down ether through tax mediation , inland revenue, national insurance, or someone a complete work history. also an academic record would be useful many thanks...

Answer: Ask for copies of your tax returns from the IRS. I did it once a few years back. At that time it was free and had my complete work representation. That should help you with the dates. For academic records send a letter in writing to your penetrating school and request copies. Most colleges / universities have an office of records (or a equivalent name) that you can request the records from, for a fee. You can do this on-line most of the time. If you need certified copies for trade purposes,
