We abide in California and have some long term (it may have just happened but we just now found it) water cost to our bathroom that we want to file a claim We have heard that if you file a claim that it will decamp it difficult if not impossible for future buyers to purchase insurance for your home...thus making it less looked-for or much more difficult to sell.
